The recent National Drench Survey highlighted to both vets and farmers just how commonplace drench resistance is throughout the country and the impact that this is starting to have on the profitability of certain farming systems.
We believe that we must all move away from the mentality of cheap drenches chosen on the basis of who has best giveaway! This does not serve us in the long term. Although it appears that a new drench family is on the horizon this has been 20 years coming, who knows how long until the next one and how much it is going to cost! The smart money is on prolonging the efficacy of our current drenches by using them wisely.
Unlike other companies we do not make all our money by selling you drench, we are here to sell you good quality advice that will add value to your farming system. If you want to buy your drench through us then that’s great. But our aim is to help you use your drench properly and prolong drench family activity on your farm for as long as possible.
Our knowledge of the mechanisms of drench resistance has grown markedly in the last few years but it is fair to say that this has not all trickled down into everyday use by farmers. Paula has recently been doing a lot of further study in this area and after speaking to a range of clients over the past few months it is clear that there is room for a lot better quality of advice and some planning ahead. Thus we are launching (finally) our drenchSMART programme.
The cornerstone of our drenchSMART programme is to put together a worm management plan for the farm based on knowledge of such things as class of stock, nutrition levels, previous drenches used, likelihood of any current drench resistance etc.
If you want to participate in the programme then please complete this form and either post it back to us or drop it in to the clinic and we will get the ball rolling for you.
