We treat cats and dogs,
horses and cows, through to alpacas, budgies and turtles.

The shop has had a wee refit over the weekend. Some of you may have noticed the fish tanks move over the last few weeks into a specially built shelving unit out of the sun. A new gondola arrived Friday night and after a weekend of rearranging the shop is now looking a lot tidier. The fish are very happy in their new home, with some more fish coming to join them in a few weeks.

We now have a better display area as you walk in the door for SPCA cats and kittens needing rehoming. You will also notice that the noticeboard has moved making way for a new area dedicated to bird products. We also have a new display area in the window for featuring new specials and giveaways.

Motueka has been lit up for the last few weeks with lights on the mainstreet and businesses lighting up their window displays. We haven't taken part during the last few winters, reluctant to use up electricity when the hydro lakes were so low. However this year we had an epiphany - lets use solar lights! In the middle of winter we wanted to feel like Spring was on its way so we did a spring theme with lambs and daffodils and lit it up with Solar Fairy Lights. The result - second place in Our Town Motueka's display competition. The lambs and daffodils were once again courtesy of our artist in residence - Cath Reid.

We were priviledged to recently win a display design competition held by one of our suppliers, Bayer Animal Health. The money we won was to go towards a team building event of some kind and after much discussion we decided on an afternoon rock climbing at Vertical Limits in town followed by dinner at the Lone Star. It was a great afternoon with everyone in the team reaching new heights!

WELCOME GABE! We have a new vet started with us this week. Gabe Young joins us from the USA via 5 years at Massey training to become a vet. It is great to have someone young, enthusiastic and full of the latest ideas from University on the team. Gabe is very well trained, having spent some time in the Cook Islands working at the Esther Honey Foundation Veterinary Clinic. Although the weather may not be quite as good here as in the Islands the working conditions are no doubt somewhat more appealing!

After many years of watching the technology develop we have finally acquired an ultrasound machine. Vets always like having new toys and this one is no exception. It has a wide range of uses from pregancy diagnosis of cows, sheep, horses, cats and dogs through to examining both hearts and abdominal organs of smaller animals such as cats and dogs and is also useful for procedures such as getting organ biopsies and getting sterile urine samples out of bladders. All the kind of stuff that we vets get very excited about!

Tasman Bay Vet was the lucky winner of a prize draw at the CODE RED carbon reductions award scheme tonight. The prize was donated by Nelson's Cawthron Institute and is a carbon emmissions assessment to the value of $1500. As a business that is committed to sustainability we fully intend to make the most of this prize and use the knowledge gained to help other businesses in our region and other veterinary clinics. Find our more about what we are doing here.

Tasman Bay Vets has a new vet! We welcome Dr Helen Taylor to our practice. Helen is with us for a few months as a locum vet while Chris and Paula catch their collective breaths and nip off for some holidays after a REALLY busy period leading up to Christmas. Helen has come over from the UK as you will very quickly pick from her accent. She is a very experienced vet with both small and large animals and we are very lucky to have her with us.
