matt evans

Hi there, for those of you who don't know me yet, I'm Matt. If you want to know a bit more about me before I see you feel free to read on!

I completed my veterinary education in 1999 at Massey and have since worked in mixed animal practices both in NZ and overaseas. Until late 2010 I had been in Guernsey (one of the Channel Islands between England and France) for 8 years. This is a place with a rich history, infamously being occupied during WW2 by the Germans. Nowadays it is known as an offshore tax haven home to  people like the F1 driver Jenson Button. No introduction would be complete without mentioning the Guernsey cow which comes from and is strongly admired and protected as a breed here. Over there I gained  a wealth of experience tending to 'all creatures great and small' - snakes, lizards, gurds and exotic parrots dropping in amongst the cats, dogs, horses and cows.

In treating any animal I have a firm belief that their quality of life is paramount - not simply time or diagnosing an illness. Within my veterinary work I have developed a particular interest in orthopaedics and cardiology and am looking to further this over the coming years.

Both during and before my time as a vet I have long had a strong affinity with dogs. This has led to me over the past 3 years to offering direct behavioural advice to help dogs and their owners work through various behavioural issues. I've seen many problems from the very common socialisation and separation concerns to the more unusual - such as a wee Westie that would not allow it's owner to use the dishwasher! Luckily, in most cases you can teach an old dog new tricks!!

Outside of the vet and animal side of life I try to spend as much time with my family as possible. I was lucky enough to meet my wife in the UK and together we have 3 young children who are make sure we're kept on our toes! As a family we are all enjoying the lifestyle, climate and oppoutunities that this brilliant region of NZ has to offer. The summer Christmas took a bit of getting used to - Santa and sunscreen not normally going together until now!!

Moving on before sleep overcomes you... If time allows my other interests get a look in. Sport of all types, especially the Kiwi classics of rugby and cricket but also a bit of guitar and art where possible.

Well that's a rundown on me. I look forward to working with you and your animals, small and large, soon!
