Head Veterinary Nurse
I was one of those kids who after my long walk home from school would turn up with a puppy or a kitten in tow, explaining to my mother that the poor little mite must be lost and therefore the only feasible option was to keep it. I was, of course, told to immediately retrace my steps and door knock until I found who the owner was! The owner was always found, as I usually picked up the bundle of cuteness from outside it's fixed abode!
I have always appreciated the boundless love and acceptance I find in the presence of animals. I have had many varied jobs over the years but none that has given the same satisfaction as the jobs where I have worked with animals, such as dog grooming and kennel and cattery work.
After the birth of my son, Cougar, I decided it was time to seek a more permanent career. For me, there was only one direction. This lead me to NMIT and a qualification in Veterinary Nursing. I wanted a satisfying and challenging job for myself and I wanted my son to understand and see that you can have a career that you enjoy if you follow what you love. I have been at Tasman Bay Vets for 7 years and am now the Head Veterinary Nurse. My job involves the day to day running of the surgeries, anaesthesia monitoring and assisting, blood taking, IV fluid therapy, radiology and ensuring the very highest standard of care for our patients from admission through surgical recovery and to discharge.
When I am not working I am spending time with our ever growing family of the four legged kind; Cherry (Black Labrador), Patch (Bully X), Kaspar, Sumo, Missy, Phoebe, Ninja (the felines) and Mr Grey (Netherland Dwarf Rabbit) and, of course, with my beautiful son and gorgeous veterinarian husband!
